A notation will be added on new forms that the applicants have six (6) months to get all information to the Recording Secretary. At the end of this time, any membership applications that are incomplete will be returned, along with their check, to the applicant. A matter concerning the possible infraction of an AKC rule was noted. BCOA will defer to any AKC ruling in this matter. A letter will be sent by the Corresponding Secretary thanking the sender. Mrs. Post presented her findings on a new tabulator. The problems concerning the tabulator in the last two elections were noted as precipitating the need for a new tabulator. Three new tabulators were contacted. One tabulator was not accepting new clients and another’s fee was prohibitive. The third tabulator is Mrs. Barbara Danieli, who is used by Mid-West Borzoi Club. At this time, they are receiving their results in a timely manor. Mrs. Danieli’s fee is quite reasonable and she has been easily contacted. (Meeting broke for dinner.) Wayne Garcia moved to use Mrs. Barbara Danieli for tabulator, Kathryn Wright seconded. Motion carried. BCOA still needs the line item breakdown for the Constitutional Ballot. The Recording Secretary will contact the old tabulator, Mr. Ewing, again and ask for the ballots. Judges Ballot for 2002/2003 will be re-done because of the problems with the printer putting in only one ballot per envelope and because many members received their ballot late. The ballot was also checked and revised as several people had requested that their names be removed. Steve Gross made a motion to approve the Recording Secretary’s report; Alice Reese seconded. Motion passed. Corresponding Secretary - No report was received.TreasurerMrs. Smith related to the Board her findings concerning our non-profit tax-free status. BCOA needs to take steps to protect this status. One measure would be to restrict advertising in the yearbook to members only. This would enable the yearbook to be classified as a historical record. Wayne Garcia made a motion to restrict participation in the BCOA yearbook to members of BCOA only. Alice Reese seconded. Motion carried. Shen also reported it was recommended that a separate subsidiary corporation be set up for the Borzoi Connection and that the 1998 and 1999 tax returns be amended. This corporation would be a for-profit subsidiary of BCOA with each of the other 17 Borzoi clubs having a Member on the Board of Directors of the new corporation. Mrs. Smith made a motion to incorporate the Borzoi Connection as a separate for-profit subsidiary corporation of BCOA. Wayne Garcia seconded. Motion passed. Mrs. Smith also reported that we need to look at increasing entries at the BCOA National from BCOA members, for a variety of reasons. It was suggested that we could work on increasing our membership. A question also arose concerning all Specialty sales. BCOA Balance Sheet as of May 19, 2000 Assets

Report of the AKC DelegateA complete delegate’s report was submitted and will be published with these minutes. Karen reported that the proposed rule change, allowing only AKC events at AKC sanctioned shows, is actually just moving the rule from one place to another. Karen reported that she will not be at the next Delegates Meeting due to finances. She wanted the Board to think about reimbursement for attending Delegates Meetings. Other discussion followed on DNA, cloning, and labs reading DNA markers. Alice Reese moved to accept the Delegates Report; Gwen Post seconded. Motion Passed. Regional Governors ReportThe reports received will be printed in the Aristocrat. There were no updates. Karen Staudt-Cartabona moved to accept the Regional Governors reports; Gwen Post seconded. Motion Carried. Committee Reports Futurity-Question arose concerning whether attendance at the Futurity was limited to only those entered. Invitations had been eliminated from the packet as a cost-cutting measure; however, the Futurity was still listed on the one-stop shopping page. In the future, an invitation with an RSVP will be put in packet. Heath-A report was received from Pam Mayberry concerning a Health Survey and the cost of printing and mailing. The Board felt that more information was needed on this survey. Discussion followed. The Board would like to see a rough draft of the survey and would like to see the final results of another survey such as from Whippets. The Board also needs to know the number of returns needed to make the survey statistically relevant. A question also came up as to why two copies were being sent to each household. Karen Staudt-Cartabona made a motion to make a donation to the AKC Health foundation. Steve Gross seconded. Mrs. Staudt-Cartabona amended her motion that BCOA annually donation the $500 BOB to the AKC Canine Health foundation. Shen Smith seconded. Both motions passed. Health Registry-See end of minutes. Historian-Two albums have been added to the display at the Specialty. A question was posed about establishing a fund to purchase items for the club archives. One possible problem would be how members would react to having their funds used in this manor. An idea was put forth to find out what books the AKC Library has and try to find and donate any Borzoi books they do not have. We could also encourage our members to donate books to the AKC Library. Inventory-Gwen stated that all medals for TSE have been sent out and that our supply is good. ROM-A letter was received from Sandra Moore asking to be on this committee. The Board was glad to add Mrs. Moore to the ROM committee. Lure Coursing-The final report for the year was received and will be in Aristocrat. Standardized Trophies-We need to upgrade TSE trophies. The design would be the old Russian Double Eagle. Mrs. Smith made a motion that we create a new medal to be awarded at TSE shows for BOB, BOS, BOW, and Best in Sweepstakes. The rest of the placements, WD, WB, Best of Opposite Sex, and High in Trial would use the old medals. Wayne Garcia seconded. Motion carried. Throw Pillow-A case of the pillows is at the Specialty for sale. Sales have been good as $421 was collected before the Specialty. A new Project will be a coverlet. Please submit designs to: Sharon Robinson, Rt. 1 Box 320-A, Kasota MN 56050. The winning designer will receive a free coverlet. The coverlet will be offered at the 2001 Specialty. Statistics-Reports received from Gale Snoddy, Agility and K.C. Artley, Lure Coursing. 2001 Specialty-A booklet will be handed out at the Awards Banquet. 2000 Yearbook-Mrs. O’Neill reported that the Yearbook had been proofed once. Target date for completion is in late June. Ways and Means- Full reports were received. Laurie Kasowski made a motion to accept all Committee Reports; Kathryn Wright seconded. Motion Passed. Second ReadingsNone. Unfinished BusinessSlides to Video- Patti Neale has a list of slides needed. She will be making a presentation to members at National and let them know what needs to be added. AKC Book revision- The members of this committee were re-affirmed as Lorraine Groshans, Marilyn Polsfuss, Patti Neale, and Karen Staudt-Cartabona. The new membership pins are available. They are $5.00 each and are pewter. New BusinessAlice Reese presented a suggestion from Bonnie Dalzell that when new members join, BCOA give them a list of kennel names that are already in use. This could be put on a web-site where people could refer to it. Discussion followed. Alice Reese moved that we have a list of existing kennel names on our web-site that should not be re-used. Karen Staudt-Cartabona seconded. Motion passed. All BCOA pamphlets will be on web-site. K.C. Artley is working on converting them at the present. Length of National tabled until next Board meeting. Members at the Annual Meeting will be asked for their input. NBRF-Financial report received. The question was raised that we need something that could help breeders find out if there is a problem in new home. Wayne Garcia made a motion to adjourn at 10:40 p.m. Pacific Day Light Savings Time; Steve Gross seconded. Passed. Respectfully Submitted F. Gwen Post Lou Avant got her report to me after the Board Meeting. Health Registry Committee Report June 2000 Participation and interest continues to grow in the
Registry. As of this date, I have issued 78 BCOA Certificates of Good
Health ... 10 Gold, 14 Silver, and 54 Bronze. Quite a number of breeders
have sent in older records and as a result we now have documentation of
health tests as far back as 1981 with many of the dogs receiving Good
Health Certificates for multiple years. |
