Annual BCOA Membership Meeting Minutes

March 29, 2002

Atlanta, Georgia

The BCOA general membership meeting was called to order at 1:40 PM by President Shen Smith.  

A quorum of the membership was established.

Patti Neale made a motion to approve the minutes of the general membership meeting in May 2001, seconded by Sara Ose. MOTION CARRIED.

Shen Smith presented annual service awards to:

Lorrie Scott presented a plaque to Maureen Bardwell, on behalf of the Borzoi in southern California . The plaque is in honor of the work she has done for Borzoi rescue

President Shen Smith discussed the concerns that have been voiced regarding the Board’s vote regarding the Centennial location. Shen said she would not entertain a motion to overturn the vote that the Board had done by secret ballot. She would entertain discussion from the membership in order to identify any concerns. The concerns will be brought back to the Board if necessary, to see if they can be resolved. There were some questions from the membership, which were answered by people involved with the Cincinnati proposal.


Shen thanked the members of the Atlanta show committee for their hard work.

Maureen Bardwell gave an overview of how BCOA rescue is doing and how well the raffle fundraisers are working to raise money for the different rescue organizations.
 

Lydia Pruett announced that the judge for the 2004 Centennial show will be Dr Gerda Kennedy. Ron Williams will be the sweepstakes judge.
 

Sandra Moore gave an overview of the ROM proposal indicating that it is a based on the titles (both performance and conformation) earned by the progeny of the sire and dam.

Ginger Jones reported on the activity in the health clinics. There were:
Microchips – 37, DNA – 12, Thryoid – 42, Hearts – 65, Eyes – 50.
There were a total of 87 OFA registrations. We needed 100 to meet the OFA donor fund challenge.

Jane Schrieber gave an report on ASFA activity in 2001. 293 Borzoi competed
In ASFA events resulting in 64 titles. Borzoi had the 2nd most titles of any breed competing in ASFA. There were 48 FCH’s, 7 LCM’s, 2 LCM II’s, 5 LCM III’s, 1 LCM IV and 1 LCM V. BCOA was the 1st member club of ASFA and has been a member club since 1973.
 

Maureen Bardwell recapped the Specialty survey results. There were 281 responses which makes it one of our largest responses received. She will compile the results and make a formal report that will be attached to these minutes.
 

Todd and Toby Brandtman handed out flyers for the 2003 Reno National Specialty. Todd is the show chairman for Reno . He gave a brief overview of the show site.  

New Business:

Toby Brandtman asked that BCOA meeting agendas be available further in advance so that she could ask her regional club if they wanted to have input on any of the agenda items and then she could bring their issues to the meeting.

Alice Reese requested that class entries for puppies be split so that littermates were not always in a row. Barbara O’Neill indicated that this could be done if requested.
 

Patti Neale reviewed the changes being made to the Judges Education presentation. It will be put in either a video or power point presentation. She would like to be able to use different pictures for a lot of the examples and pleaded for people to send her pictures of their dogs faults and virtues. Pictures can be changed to remove identifying features so that the dogs can be anonymous. Patti handed out a list of the different types of pictures needed.

Gwen Post made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Prudence Hlatky. MOTION CARRIED.  Meeting adjourned at 2:55 PM
