Discussion regarding the continuation of printing New Champions in the Aristocrat resulted in a motion from Karen Staudt-Cartabona, 2nd by Marilyn Polsfuss that the BCOA continue printing these stats. MOTION CARRIED. International Kennel Club of Chicago is looking for a BCOA TSE with their four day cluster shows Feb 25-28, 1999. Any Region Six members interested in chairing a BCOA TSE with this event please contact Regional Governor - Kalen Dumke. A motion was made by Pat Murphy, 2nd by Kalen Dumke to approve the recording secretary's report. MOTION CARRIED.

Corresponding Secretary's Report - Karen Mays reported that all correspondence is current and up to date at this time. Discussion regarding the release of the BCOA membership list resulted in a consensus of the board to create a policy which would prohibit distribution of the membership list. Letter from the American Kennel Club, Inc. informing parent clubs that local and regional clubs should notify their parent club before they submit their event applications and that an appeal can be made directly to the AKC in case of a denial. Again this causes some confusion, as the word "should notify" leave this again a discretionary practice. Karen Mays will write to all regional clubs informing them of the AKC letter. A current list of email addresses will be sent to Karen Mays to contact the regional clubs. A copy of the BCOA membership list needs to be submitted to the AKC in text format. Letter was reviewed from Dogs in Review regarding the AKC Dog Book in reference to Borzoi being "not good with children". Karen Staudt-Cartabona will contact Bo Bengston regarding the BCOA response. A motion was made by Fred Edlin, 2nd by Rhanda Glenn to approve the corresponding secretary's report. MOTION CARRIED.

Treasurer's Report - Marilyn Polsfuss submitted a financial report covering the previous quarter. Bonding and insurance was discussed. A motion was made by Pat Murphy, 2nd by Kalen Dumke to continue the bonding policy at a rate of $538.00 for an additional 3 year period. MOTION CARRIED. A motion was made by Kalen Dumke, 2nd by Kathleen Kapaun to accept the treasurer's report. MOTION CARRIED.

A motion was made by Karen Staudt-Cartabona, 2nd by Fred Edlin to recommend to the AKC the kennel name retirements for the following kennels: O'Valley Farm, Malora, Romanoff and Trezor. MOTION CARRIED. The board directed the delegate to cast one of her votes for Dr. Asa Mays in the coming Board of Director's Election. A motion was made by Marilyn Polsfuss, 2nd by Rhanda Glenn to approve the delegate's report. MOTION CARRIED.

Coverlet Committee (Sharon Robinson) reports that plans for the coverlet are progressing with a possible release date with the 1998 Nationals. Aristocrat - The first issue of the combined Aristocrat with the Borzoi Connection, was impressive, but I can claim no credit for that issue beyond my "From the Editor." I saw no material before it was included, and what I submitted was not used. I am still trying to determine exactly what my role is. With any new undertaking there are bound to be things which need to be clarified. Plans are underway to form a board of editors that can organize the articles for each issue, insuring a variety of material rather than several articles on the same topic, and provide guidelines for the publication. BCOA Banner Project (Angela SanPaolo) Bids were reviewed for the banner project. A motion was made by Shen Smith, 2nd by Pat Murphy to authorize Jessica Baker to create the banners and to receive a deposit for the project. MOTION CARRIED. Banners will be retained each year with the challenge trophies and be transported to the next specialty with the trophies. Health Committee (Lou Avant, DVM & Alice Reese) The Health Committee has opened an account…which is the BCOA Health Fund. This fund has been established to take donations that will be used to donate to research in areas that are of importance to the health of our breed and to defray costs of speakers at the nationals who speak to health concerns. Send any donations for the BCOA Health Fund to Alice Reese, 5200 Sandpiper Ln., Birmingham, AL 35244 (checks payable to BCOA Health Fund). A BCOA Emergency Pack is being created for the National. Membership input is invited as to items this kit might contain. The Health Committee is also looking for input for fund raising events…any ideas and volunteers are most welcome. The Health Committee would like the members to let them know what topics they would like to see Lou Avant, DVM address in her articles in the Borzoi Connection. If any members have an article they think is relevant to health, please send this to Lou Avant, DVM, 3790 Michael's Way, Cumming, GA 30130. We would like to thank the following people for their recent donations to the Health Fund: Maureen Bardwell and Shen Smith. Some are donating $5.00 for each puppy in a litter they have, some are donating in the memory of a loved one or a special dog they have lost, some are just donating because they believe in the future and health of our breed….BE ONE OF THEM!!!! Alice would like to challenge every member of the club to donate at least $5.00 to Health. Historian (Laurie Kasowski) Nothing to report at this time. Specialty videos need to be sent each year to the Archives (Barbara Yoon). The specialty videos are the property of the BCOA not of the show chairpersons. Educational material was sent to Barbara Binder, Borzoi contact for a Hound comparison seminar, presented by Dr. Quentin LaHam, 3/29/98 sponsored by the Pacific North West Dog Judges Study Group. Advertising for each of these events is being handled by the various Judges Aooc. In the major dog fanciers publications and applicable premium lists. The Judges Study Group at the National Specialty in Racine will be filmed by a professional video company under the auspices of the American Kennel Club. Several National Judges' Study Groups for other breeds were filmed in 1997 and are currently available for sale from the AKC. It is expected that the Borzoi one will be produced and marketed to the fancy in the same manner. Judges' Study Material Handbook, a price of $5.00 has been established for the purchase of these booklets. BCOA Publicity Committee (Kalen Dumke) A letter was sent to "Sighthound Review" asking for coverage for our National Specialty. A letter was also sent to "Dogs in Review" asking for coverage/photos. A report on the National will be sent to both publications. Contact was made with the AKC regarding coverage for the Centennial National Specialty.
